Regular hydrant testing ensures that in the event of a fire, the fire brigade have all tools available to them, in good working order, to support them in their bid to save lives and property.
Testing is an annual requirement for all private property owners though out the UK where fire hydrants are present. Underground hydrants also require regular inspection by a competent contractor and occasional maintenance to ensure that they will work correctly when required.
The installation and maintenance of privately owned Fire Hydrants is governed by British Standards and Building Regulations BS9990 and BS750.
Typically annual testing covers the following areas;
- Flow test in Litres per minute
- Pressure test in BAR
- Signage
- Pit and cover condition
- Depth of valve
